  • About

The Illinois Fire Safety Alliance is dedicated to fire safety, burn prevention, and supporting burn survivors. Through partnerships along with bringing together volunteers and supporters, the IFSA will accomplish its mission in an ethical, compassionate, and professional manner.

The IFSA offers no-cost fire safety and burn prevention resources to any and all schools, hospitals, fire departments, assisted living facilities, individuals, and companies in the state of Illinois. Nearly a dozen resources are available covering home safety, burn prevention, safety for the elderly and disabled, plus many other topics.

The IFSA also hosts various burn survivor support programs throughout the year:

    Camp ''I Am Me''
A special and unforgettable one-week camp experience for children and teenagers who have experienced injuries from burns. Since 1991, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance has been providing a safe environment for children who have experienced significant burn injuries in a non-judgmental atmosphere in which children have the opportunity to build their self-esteem as they enjoy the varied activities that make up their camp experience.

    Family Day
A one-day event for families who have a child (pre-teen) that has been adversely effected by a burn injury. In addition to educational presentations, the day allows for both children and parents to meet and network with others who have been through similar situations. The annual event takes place at kid-friendly locations such as amusement parks, zoos, and museums to allow for fun activities to be scheduled throughout the day for the entire family.

    World Burn Congress Scholarships
The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors’ four-day international conference brings together more than 900 burn survivors, their families, caregivers, burn care professionals, and firefighters. The Illinois Fire Safety Alliance facilitates numerous scholarships on an annual basis, covering 100% of the conference, travel, and lodging costs for the scholarship recipients.

    Young Adult Summit
This three-day retreat was developed to prepare and assist those who have experienced injuries from burns for the challenges ahead of them not only as burn survivors, but as young adults. The Young Adult Summit provides life skills and identifies the challenges associated with burns through scheduled workshops and activities that support personal growth, emotional healing, school, career, relationships, and self-image.
