Job Description

POSITION: Economic Development Manager

REPORTS TO:  President
 
 
SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Schaumburg Business Association President, the Economic Development Manager provides the following services to the SBA in a key professional staff position:
 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the Village of Schaumburg staff and elected officials through the implementation of the public/private partnership as established under the guidelines of the SBA.

  • Manage annual business recruitment, retention, and expansion (BRE) surveys; identify quality business prospects, and establish and execute marketing campaigns to attract those businesses to the community and to association membership.

  • Communicate with industry representatives to encourage location, retention, or expansion of business in Schaumburg, IL; maintain effective working relationships with developers, brokers, and other resources for bringing business prospects to Schaumburg.

  • Work with SBA membership team to develop and maintain positive working relationships with existing Schaumburg businesses. Help recruit businesses to join the SBA and assist in the networking for development of new businesses.

  • Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the economic development program.

  • Recommend new and expand existing business development and expansion strategies through coordination with the SBA and Village of Schaumburg.

  • Maintain a database of business prospects; participate in regional activities to promote Schaumburg to the development community and to business prospects.

  • Work with SBA President to develop an entrepreneurial business incubator.

  • Plan and manage two annual Commercial Real Estate Summits, and two annual manufacturers’ summits; provide timely, accurate, and thorough performance data to SBA President, Board of Director, and Village of Schaumburg officials; develop and execute a plan to maintain and increase regional investment.

  • Provide a monthly e-newsletter updating the investors of projects and activities.

  • Work with representatives from Federal, State, and local government offices to enhance economic development initiatives, as directed.

 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two to five years of economic development, or experience in a related field such as business development, sales, municipal management or government policy development.

  • Proven capability to work with and across multiple organizations.

  • Strong analytic and strategic thinking skills; experience presenting to decision makers and groups.

  • Ability to quickly grasp partners’ business objectives and align with Schaumburg’s priorities and opportunities.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex and multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated results in meeting business development goals.

 

  • An effective team player with a strong work ethic.

  • Multi-industry business development experience, including a knowledge of manufacturing and industry.

 PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business, Political Science or other related field

  • Computer proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Internet, and database software

  • Excellent communications skills (Written and Verbal) and effective customer service skills

  • Professional demeanor, representing the organization with enthusiasm, political astuteness, professionalism, and image

  • Strong organizational & multi-tasking capabilities

  • Attention to detail; time and project management skills, ability to meet deadlines with professionalism and accuracy, and high degree of self-motivation

  • Ability to develop administrative controls and process improvements

  • Ability to work independently and exercise tact in a nonprofit environment

  • A cooperative attitude in a supportive work environment
