Position Summary:
AQI (the Anesthesia Quality Institute) was established by the American Society of Anesthesiologists in October 2008 to facilitate practice-based quality management through education and quality data feedback. The AQI Director of Operations is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI), a 501(c) (3) non-profit, including its data registries and vendor oversight.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates operations of a national data registry for anesthesiologists based on strategic direction from the AQI Executive and AQI Board.
  • Implements strategies and tracks departmental goals that support the strategic plan and organizational goals/direction. Ensures the successful implementation of approved initiatives. Drives departmental excellence and identifies and implements best practices.
  • Manages vendor and collaborative relationships (i.e. data warehouse and analytics vendor).
  • Establishes and monitors data warehouse key performance indicators to include data integration and customer issue resolution.
  • Evaluates and improves business processes for participating practices with the goal of a better member experience.
  • Oversees the maintenance and development of informative and innovative practice educational materials for NACOR and CMS reporting.
  • Oversees response to research queries, while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations with respect to the AQI’s Patient Safety Organization and 501(c)(3) status.
  • Evaluates and recommends staff resources and support required to meet goals and implement/administer the programs.
  • Establishes and adheres to salary and expense budgets and overall finances of the AQI.
  • Attends AQI Board meetings and other appropriate committee meetings as needed.
  • Collaborates with Quality & Regulatory Affairs, Business Development and data warehouse vendor on yearly adoption and operationalizing of CMS reporting requirements.
  • Collaborates with other ASA departments whose services are needed to help support the Quality Institute.
 Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant business experience required, some clinical and/or IT experience helpful.
  • Experience in planning, developing and maintaining a data registry preferred.
  • Experience in operations and management of an organization, preferably a 501(c)(3) organization preferred. Additional experience in managing and interacting with volunteer members.
  • Project management training and/or certification a plus.
