Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing support to the financial operations of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and related organizations by performing accounting functions related to preparing and reviewing various financial transactions, general ledger balances, financial records and reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Primary Position Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the monthly close process of ASA and related organizations. This will entail performing assigned accounting functions prior to due dates and analyzing assigned accounts or departments during the close process for significant variances.
  • Reconcile assigned ASA, and related organizations accounts by the due date specified in the reconciliation schedule. Prepares bank reconciliations as well as weekly cash flow needs analysis.
  • Provide all accounting related duties for assigned related entities, including month-end financial statement preparation, investment accounting, financial statement distribution and follow up from organization leader inquires. Actively accounts for the various entities’ multiple designated funds and provide status updates as needed. Participates in meetings with organization leaders as needed.
  • Participate in annual audit process. This will include providing auditors with assigned account reconciliations and PBC items.
  • Perform the accounting duties of assigned functions for the ASA and related organizations.
  • Participate in the annual 990 tax return process to ensure all tax returns are filed on a timely basis.
  • Provide financial liaison support to assigned department directors particularly with budget preparation, monthly reporting and financial analysis as needed.
  • Participates in various projects as assigned to meet departmental goals.
Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (required) in Accounting (preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of staff accountant experience required.
  • Knowledge of accounting terminology and procedures; working knowledge of GAAP and account reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products; including proficiency in Excel spreadsheet layouts.
  • Highly-developed interpersonal skills, affinity for networking and demonstrated high level of confidence and poise with a strong member service orientation.
  • Ability to organize and analyze date, communicate with stakeholders, develop recommendations and proposals for solving problems while exhibiting realistic understanding of issues.
  • Demonstrate personal integrity in interactions with vendors, contractors and in communication with members and staff.
